Fuzl's Math Accelerator program encourages students to build skill and confidence in math by working at their own pace and getting frequent help, guidance, and mentoring from experienced tutors. One can think of Fuzl as a very focused private library staffed with math tutors and mentors dedicated to helping students when and how they need it. The primary goal of the Math Accelerator program is to do well on grade level work by reducing math anxiety and increasing confidence. For those who want to do more, we offer the Fuzl Gifted program.
How does it work?
Students simply show up during our standard hours, bring whatever math they're currently learning, and get to work on it. Stuck on a problem? We’re there. Learning something new and need a quick intro lesson? No problem. Not sure about how best to prepare for a test? We’ve got a plan for that! Even when students aren't actively asking for help, we're constantly keeping an eye on their activity and approach so we can ensure they are using the best techniques.
We challenge our students frequently to ensure that not only can they get to the correct answers, but they know why. Challenges may come directly from tutors, via our Fuzl Accelerator app, or other 3rd party apps and content. We also encourage peer tutoring, especially from students in our Fuzl Gifted program. Such tutoring benefits both students by bringing to light new perspectives and questions as it deepens understanding. Finally, we try to teach students how to identify and utilize high quality online resources to help them help themselves. Students can come alone or with friends but will always work and be challenged at their own individual level.
What grades are supported?
We currently support up to seventh grade, but please feel free to contact us if you are interested in other grades.
Fuzl's Math Accelerator is open from 2:45-6:15 PM on days when Arlington Public Schools are open, excluding Fridays.
We hope to keep prices low by limiting administrative time coordinating schedules and handling payments. To that end, we bill monthly based on the approximate number of times each student wants to come per week. We will initially run on an honor system so if you pick the “Once per week” option, just try to come about once a week on average. If you miss a week, just come twice another week. There's also no fixed time limit for each visit, but we typically expect your session to be between 1-2 hours.
If you have questions or are ready to join Math Accelerator, please contact us and we'll help you get started.
